High school basketball: South Fayette routs Class 6A section champ
South Fayette is one of three girls basketball teams in Class 5A that have strong cases for being the No. 1 seed when the WPIAL playoff brackets and pairings are released this afternoon.
The Lions made their final pitch for No. 1 on Saturday when they defeated Class 6A Section 1 champion Seneca Valley, 65-30, in a game played at North Allegheny.
Ryan Oldaker pumped in a game-high 22 points to spark South Fayette (21-1), which raced out to leads of 22-7 at the end of one quarter and 38-17 at halftime. Juliette Leroux added 15 points for the Lions, who have won 13 in a row.
Seneca Valley is 15-6.
Washington 63, Monessen 30
Olivia Woods led three Wash High players in double figures with 23 points and the Prexies dominated the second and third quarters en route to a 63-30 victory over visiting Monessen.
Washington (8-13) led 12-10 after one quarter before holding a 38-15 scoring edge over the next two periods.
Kyndra Wynn had 13 points for Wash High and Faith Partozoti tossed in 11.
Na’Jaziah Carter led Monessen (5-15) with 14 points and Madison Johnson scored 12.

South Fayette 54, Obama 46
Tyson Wright scored a game-high 18 points and South Fayette defeated Obama Academy of the Pittsburgh City League, 54-46.
South Fayette (15-7) forged a 13-point halftime lead and pushed it to 18 at the end of three quarters.
Elijah Wright scored 15 points for Obama (9-8).
Serra Catholic 79, Waynesburg 53
Owen Dombroski poured in a game-high 31 points as Serra Catholic defeated Waynesburg 79-53 in a nonsection contest.
Serra improves to 18-3 overall. Waynesburg is 9-12.
Dane Woods had a double-double for Waynesburg with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Jack Ricciuti had 12 points and Cole Headlee netted 10.
Jeannette 71, Bentworth 25
Markus McGowen scored 17 points and Jayce Powell added 16 as Jeannette defeated cold-shooting Bentworth 71-25 in Class 2A Section 1.
Jeannette finishes section play at 12-2 and the Jayhawks are 19-2 overall.
Bentworth slips to .500, both in the section (7-7) and overall (10-10).
The Bearcats were led by Chris Harper’s nine points.
In other games
Washington was a 43-34 winner over visiting Monessen in a nonsection game. No game details were reported.
