High school basketball: Balanced scoring key to West Greene victory
Lane Allison had 19 points to pace West Greene to a Class 2A Section 3 boys basketball win over Burgettstown, 68-40, Wednesday night on the Pioneers’ home court.
Parker Burns added 13 points for the Pioneers (4-1, 6-5), Patrick Durbin contributed 11 points and Matt Wassil scored 10.
Colton County led the Blue Devils with 13 points.
Carmichaels 37, Mapletown 27
Carmichaels (2-3, 3-7) outscored Mapletown, 23-6, in the second half to rally for a Class 3A, Section 2 victory.
Dayton Reynolds had 10 points for the Mikes, who trailed 21-14 at halftime.
Lucas Stevenson and Tyler Howard scored eight points apiece for the Maples (0-5, 0-10).
Avella 74, Cornell 31
Bryce Wright scored 21 points and sank five 3-pointers and Cameron Ullom recorded a double-double with12 points and 12 rebounds as Avella (1-1, 7-5) rolled past Cornell (0-2, 1-9) in Class A, Section 1.
Nate Cilia added 13 points for the Eagles, who held Cornell to single-digits in the second, third and fourth quarters.
Alex Benitez scored nine for Cornell.
Frazier 67, California 43
Dailan McManus poured in a game-high 22 points to lead Frazier (1-4, 3-9) past California (0-5, 2-9) in a Class 2A, Section 1 game.
Kolby Stewart chipped in 18 points for the Commodores and Conlan Higbee scored 10.
Jacob Ziolecki led California with 14 points.
Girls Basketball
California 46, Uniontown 42
Hayley Gibson scored 17 points and Olivia Gibson had 16 to help California (4-3) secure a nonsection win over Uniontown (4-7).
The Trojans outscored the Red Raiders, 14-11 in the fourth quarter.
Tessa Nicholson scored 13 points for Uniontown.
Laurel Highlands 69, Belle Vernon 29
Ayriana Sumpter had 21 points to lead four Laurel Highlands players in double figures in a Class 4A, Section 3 win over Belle Vernon.
Taylor Irwin had 14 points for the Mustangs (3-2, 8-4), Aierra Jenkins finished with 12 points and Miya Harris scored 11.
Abby Russell and Aubrey Brown had six points each for the Leopards (2-3, 4-8).
Seton LaSalle 75, Washington 37
Tiara Curry and Addie Longergan scored 22 points each and Seton LaSalle earned a Class 3A, Section 3 victory.
Natalie Pacarella finished with 12 points for the Rebels (4-0, 8-3) and Amari Elliot scored 10.
Olivia Woods led Washington (1-3, 4-7) with 15 points.
Beth-Center 48, Carmichaels 13
Beth-Center remained on the heels of Chartiers-Houston and Bentworth at the top of Class 2A Section 3 with a 48-13 victory at Carmichaels.
The Bulldogs (2-1, 7-5) led 13-2 after one quarter and 15-5 at halftime before pulling away with a 19-2 scoring edge in the third quarter.
Violet Trump and Callie led B-C in scoring, each tossing in 13 points.
Carmichaels is 0-3 in section and 0-11 overall.
