Ringgold wrestling wins Mercer VFW Tournament title
Backed by four first place finishers, the Ringgold wrestling team secured the overall team title Saturday at the Mercer VFW Tournament title Saturday at Mercer High School.
Leif Syrko (114 pounds), Evan Tolliver (127), Christian Lowther (160) and Jake Conroy (215) won individual titles for the Rams.
In the individual finals ,Syrko pinned Avella’s Dustin Mace, Tolliver had a 15-0 tech. fall victory over Central Cambria’s Burke Neibauer, Lowther secured a 4-1 decision over Slippery Rock’s Zac Tuberville and Conroy won by tech. fall 21-5 against Moshannon Valley’s Tyler Lobb.
Two other local wrestlers earned individual titles.
Fort Cherry’s Braedon Welsh (189) won by tech. fall, 19-3 over Central Cambria’s Jeremy Hajzus.
Washington’s Caleb Patton pinned Fort Cherry’s Shawn Robertson in the third period of the 152-pound final.
