CANONSBURG – The match could not have turned out any better for T.J. Allison.

The senior from Trinity High registered a 7-1 decision over Mason Calgaro to wrap up a 31-27 victory over rival Canon-McMillan Wednesday evening inside a loud Cano-McMillan gymnasium.

The win wrapped up the Section 2 title for the Hillers and gave Allison the 100th victory of his wrestling career.

What made the win even sweeter was Allison attended Canon-McMillan until high school. So he has all the bases covered.

“I just got this yesterday,” said Allison of the banner he held up while family and friends clicked off pictures. “I was thinking about getting 100 wins this weekend but it turned out I got it here. It felt pretty good getting it at my old school.”

Allison is the second wrestler in as many years to reach 100 career wins. Blake Reihner not only reached the century mark but also set the school record with just over 140 wins.

“I just needed a win (last night),” said Allison. “I was glad I had the opportunity.”

“He’s just our heart and soul of the team,” said Trinity head coach Ron Tarquinio. “He’s our leader. He gives our team a talk. He’s one of the hardest workers we have. Nothing but love and respect for him.”

The top two teams from each section and a wild card will be eligible for the WPIAL Class 3A Team Tournament, which gets underway Monday. Canon-McMillan and Trinity have qualified for the postseason.

Canon-McMillian led 18-4 at one point and appeared to have the match sewn up. But Trinity outscored the Big Macs 27-9 over the final handful of bouts. Dom Canali’s pin at 127 and Devin Junko’s pin at 139 drove home the winning punch to the Big Macs.

“I knew we both had solid teams and their strength was up top,” said Tarquinio. “Unfortunately we started up top (152) and we just had to weather the storm. I think we had to save ourselves a lot of point which we did. Then we just needed a win in the last match.”

Canon-McMillan won three of the first four bouts to build a lead.

“I thought it was going to come down to the last bout,” said C-M head coach Jurdon Maier. “Hopefully, we can re-ignight this rivalry.”

Trinity wins the section with a 4-0 record. Canon-McMillan fell to 3-1 and is in second place.
