High school baseball: Mistakes break PT at Lampeter-Strasburg
Two unearned runs proved to be enough to end the baseball season for Peters Township.
Lampeter-Strasburg used those two runs to beat the Indians 2-1 Monday in a PIAA Class 5A first-round playoff game on the Pioneers’ home field.
Lampeter-Strasburg (20-5), the District 3 champion, scored single runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 2-0 lead.
In the third, Lampeter-Strasburg took advantage of a two-base throwing error and a dropped third strike, which set up an RBI groundout and a 1-0 lead.
In the fourth, two singles, an error and another RBI groundout pushed the Pioneers lead to 2-0.
Peters Township (15-10) did its scoring in the fifth. Zach Miner hit a one-out single and courtesy runner Adam Koraido stole second base. A flyout advanced Koraido to third base and he scored when Jackson Stocker singled to right field.
The Indians left the bases loaded in the fifth and put only one ball in play over the remainder of the game.
Cooper Hillen pitched 2⅓ hitless innings with six strikeouts for the win.
Miner allowed seven hits and walked one. He struck out five.
Homer-Center 10, Carmichaels 0
District 6 champion Homer-Center scored in every inning and defeated Carmichaels 10-0 in a five-inning Class A first-round baseball game at First Commonwealth Field.
Homer-Center (20-5) had a 12-hit attack and winning pitcherDomenick Shimko threw a three-hit shutout. He walked three and struck out six.
Collin Dunn and Brayden Rado both went 3-for-3 to lead the Homer-Center offense. Dunn scored twice and drove in three runs. Rado added three scores.
Carmichaels had all of its hits over the first two innings but was unable to push across a run.
The Mikes end the season with a 15-6 record.
