Four local wrestlers win titles at girls Western Regional
Canon-McMillan’s Natalie Rush and Marlee Solomon, Avella’s Abigail Dolanch and Trinity’s Eliana Ashby won championships at the PIAA girls Western Regional Saturday at North Allegheny.
Solomon won the 109-pound title with a 17-1 tech fall over Connellsville’s Trinity Moore. Rush also won by tech fall, 16-1, over Plum’s Alaina Claassen in the 190-pound final.
Dolanch secured an 8-3 decision against Kiski’s Alyssa Tesco at 142 and Ashby pinned Canon-McMillan’s Evangeline Gray in the first period of the 148-pound championship.
The top four placewinners advanced to the state championship next weekend in Hershey.
Fort Cherry’s Ella Trahan (106), Canon-McMillan’s Yunuen Ayala (118) and Peters Township’s Liliana Giulianelli (190) placed third. Fourth-place finishers were Canon-McMillan’s Malia Ramos (106) and London Ellis (235) and Trinity’s Alexia Ashby (142).
