Trinity’s Schott wins bronze medal at PIAA swimming

LEWISBURG – Trinity’s Paige Schott had a highly successful season conclude Thursday at the PIAA Swimming Championships at Bucknell University’s Kinney Natatorium.

Schott won a bronze medal on Wednesday by placing third in the girls Class 2A 100-yard butterfly. A sophomore, Schott qualified for the A final by posting the fourth-fastest time (:58.4) in the preliminaries and bettered it in the finals. She swam 57.59.

Kira Schrecongost of Freeport won the race in 54.96. Lainey Sheets of Hampton was second, giving the WPIAL the top three finishers.

Schott then narrowly missed the final in the 100 breaststroke on Thursday. She swam the ninth-fastest time in the preliminaries. The top eight advanced to the A finals, which had Schott the fastest qualifier for the B final, which she won in 1:07.27, a mere .01 faster than runner-up Mila Klena of Penns Valley. Schott officially placed ninth in the event.

Ringgold’s Natalie Noll advanced to the finals of the 100 backstroke and placed eighth in 57.26.

South Fayette’s Josh Grimenstein made the final of the boys 100 backstroke and having the fourth-fastest time (51.54) in the preliminaries. That spot held as he finished fourth in the finals Thursday night.
