High school baseball: Belle Vernon’s Lind no-hits McGuffey

Senior Parker Lind fired a five-inning no-hitter as the Leopards defeated McGuffey 14-0 Tuesday night at Wild Things Park.

Lind walked three and struck out 11. He got plenty of offensive support as Belle Vernon had 14 hits. The Leopards scored five runs in the third inning to forge an 8-0 lead.

Connor Bergman doubled and drove in three runs, Kole Doppelheuer was 2-for-3 and scored three times, Chase Petrosky hit a triple and Jaden Johnson added a double.

Chartiers-Houston 7, Carmichaels 1

Aaron Walsh, Justus Buckingham and Paul Williamson each drove in two runs, Dominic Cumer pitched into the sixth inning and Chartiers-Houston won at Carmichaels, 7-1.

Cumer allowed two hits and one unearned run. He struck out six but did walk six. Brady Gotfredson threw 1⅓ innings of hitless and scoreless relief.

Walsh had the game’s only extra-base hit, a double.

Jefferson-Morgan 7, California 2

Jefferson-Morgan scored six runs on three hits in the top of the seventh inning to rally for a 7-2 win at California.

J-M trailed 2-1 and had been limited to one hit through six innings. But the Rockets tied the score on an RBI double by Dayten Marion and took the lead when Jaymison Robinson drew a bases-loaded walk.

John Woodward was the winning pitcher with four shutout innings of relief. He struck out five.

Woodward and Brayden Ellsworth doubled for the Rockets.

Caden Monticelli threw three shutout innings and struck out seven for the Trojans. Weston Monticelli and Ricky Lawson doubled.

Winchester Thurston 12, Washington 7

Defense let Washington down in a 12-7 loss to Winchester Thurston.

The Prexies committed six errors, leading to 11 unearned runs for the Bears.

Wash High scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 5-4 lead, but Winchester Thurston scored seven unearned runs in the bottom of the frame.

Wash High had 13 hits, including a home run, double and four RBI by Tayler Bainer, and Caleb Patton’s home run, triple and two RBI. Isaac Charnik and Travon Moye doubled.

Mapletown 18, Clairton 8

Austin Nesselroad went 4-for-4, and Spencer Yeager had three hits and pitched a complete game as Mapletown defeated Clairton, 18-8.

Mapletown stole eight bases.

Freedom 16, Fort Cherry 15

Fort Cherry plated a dozen runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, but its rally fell short in a 16-15 loss to visiting Freedom.

Colton Temple went 5-for-5 with a double, a homer and four RBI for Fort Cherry. Landon Trnavsky also homered for the Rangers and drove in three runs.

Freedom scored nine times in the top of the sixth, so there were 21 total runs in the inning. The teams combined for 29 hits in the game.

Waynesburg 11, Tohopekaliga (Fla.) 7

Kory Taylor had three hits and drove in four runs as Waynesburg defeated Tohopekaliga (Fla.) 11-7 Monday night in Winter Haven, Fla.

Waynesburg did all of its scoring in the first three innings, then had to hold off Tohopekaliga.

Winning pitcher Troy Groves went five innings and struck out nine. He helped his cause by hitting a triple. Taylor had a double.
