High school softball: Chartiers-Houston gets shutout win
Meadow Ferri tripled, drove in four runs and fired a 10-strikeout shutout as Chartiers-Houston blanked Morgantown, W.Va., 10-0 in five innings Thursday at Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Ella Richey went 3-for-3 with a triple and three runs, and Lauren Rush had a double as the Bucs improved to 4-0.
Ferri threw a four-hitter with only one walk.
South Fayette 20, Mars 3
Nine different South Fayette players drove in at least one run as the Lions trounced Mars 20-3 in a nonsection game.
Evie Vuono hit a three-run homer and Maddie Cavenaugh had two doubles and three RBI to lead the Lions’ attack.
West Greene 6, Mayfield, Ohio 3
West Greene ran its overall record to 3-0, winning their first game at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C., a 6-3 victory over Mayfield, Ohio.
Payton Gilbert was the winning pitcher,striking out six.
Emmaline Beazell hit a double and had a sacrifice fly for West Greene. Katie Brudnock had a hit and three RBI, and Kylee Davis drove in a run.
Carmichaels 15, Monessen 1
Ali Jacobs went 4-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI, Ashton Batis hit a two-run homer and Carmichaels routed Monessen 15-1 in five innings.
Kaitlyn Waggett had three hits, including a double, and scored three runs. Winning pitcher Bailey Barnyak doubled and fired a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts as the Mikes improved to 3-0.
Upper St. Clair 6, Trinity 2
Upper St. Clair scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and defeated visiting Trinity 6-2 in a nonsection game.
Winning pitcher Brooklyn Kemp threw a five-hitter with 10 strikeouts.
Alexa Zawacki had two hits, including a double, for Trinity.
Hillers starting pitcher Maddie Ray allowed one run and struck out five over five innings.
North Allegheny 7, Canon-McMillan 3
Twilia Goulding hit a three-run homer, powering North Allegheny to a 7-3 win at Canon-McMillan in Class 6A Section 1.
Winning pitcher Sammy Plotsko scattered five hits and struck out eight.
Aurora Shirdon had two hits, including a double, for Canon-Mac.
Kenston, Ohio 3, Waynebsurg 1
Waynesburg dropped a 3-1 contest to Kenston (Ohio) Thursday morning in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
Gina Tedrow pitched a complete game for the Raiders and struck out 15, allowing three runs on five hits. Tedrow also had two hits, including a double and Avery Davis singled twice. Mira Jarzembak hit an inside the park home run for Kenston.
