High School Softball: Trinity squanders hits in loss to Southmoreland

Trinity had eight more hits than visiting Southmoreland but the Hillers couldn’t turn enough of them into runs as they lost 4-3 in a nonsection game Monday.

Trinity (10-9) had 13 hits to Southmoreland’s five.

Southmoreland broke a 1-1 tie with a three-run fifth inning that was capped by a two-run single by Riley Puckey.

Trinity’s Gabby Humphreys smacked a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth, and an RBI single by Ally Krenzelak in the sixth pulled the Hillers to within 4-3.

Hanna Suhoski hit two doubles for Trinity.

Southmoreland is 9-6. The Scotties have clinched a playoff berth in Class 3A.

Frazier 10, Belle Vernon 2

Class 2A Section 4 champion Frazier defeated host Belle Vernon 10-2 in a nonsection action.

Frazier (13-2) scored three runs in the first inning and led 3-1 before breaking the game open with three tallies in the fifth and four in the sixth.

Emme Travalena hit two doubles and winning pitcher Addison Himes struck out six.

Belle Vernon’s Kaylee Sypolt hit a solo home run.
