High school baseball: Jefferson-Morgan walks off with 1-0 win
Drew Adams’ two-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday scored pinch-runner Liam Rogers from second base with the game’s only run as Jefferson-Morgan edged Jeannette 1-0 in Class A Section 1.
J-M’s Brenton Barnhart started the seventh by drawing a walk. After Rogers replaced Barnhart on the bases, an error on a pickoff throw advanced the J-M runner to second base.
Rockets starter John Woodward and reliever Bryaden Ellsworth combined on a six-hit shutout. Woodward struck out eight over 5 2-3 innings.
Adams had two of J-M’s three hits.
Keystone Oaks 15, Washington 4
Keystone Oaks scored nine runs in the top of the seventh inning to finish a 15-4 win over Washington in a Class 3A Section 4 game.
The win keeps KO (5-6, 8-8) in contention for the section’s final playoff berth.
Wash High (1-10, 4-14) had only four hits but three of them went for extra bases. Caleb Patton hit a triple, and Isaac Charnik and Zander Henderon each added doubles.
Trinity 9, Moon 6
After seeing a once comfortable lead erased, Trinity scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to secure a 9-6 win over Moon in Class 5A Section 2.
The Hillers (5-6, 9-8) led 4-0 through five innings before Moon (4-7, 5-12) plated six runs in the top of the sixth. Thad Longwell had a two-run single in the inning.
Karson Hathaway helped Trinity respond with a two-run single of his own in a five-run bottom half of the sixth.
Luke Poland got the win for Trinity in relief. He got the final out in the sixth and put up a scoreless seventh. Matthew Robaugh homered in the fifth for the Hillers.
West Mifflin 7, Belle Vernon 5
West Mifflin moved into sole possession of first place in Class 4A Section 2 with a 7-5 win over visiting Belle Vernon.
West Mifflin (10-2, 15-5) is a half-game ahead of Elizabeth Forward (9-2, 12-3) and one game ahead of Belle Vernon (9-3, 14-3).
The Titans led 7-2 before Belle Vernon scored three times in the top of the seventh and had the potential winning run at bat when the game ended.
