High school softball: Steban, C-M overpower Bethel Park
Skylah Steban had a home run, double and two RBI, powering Canon-McMillan to a 9-4 win over Bethel Park in a nonsection game Tuesday.
The Big Macs (12-8) broke a 2-2 tie by scoring seven times in the fourth inning.
Sophie Carl and Hailey Swope each had a double and drove in two runs for C-M. Starting pitcher Brooke Bumer and reliever Lyla Mowery combined on an eight-hitter with seven strikeouts.
Trinity 16, Baldwin 6
Winning pitcher Maddie Ray hit a three-run, game-ending homer as Trinity rolled to a 16-6 win in six innings over Baldwin in a nonsection contest.
Ally Krenzelak had another big game for Trinity (11-9), going 4-for-5 and scoring three runs. Nina Christy doubled and drove in three.
The Hillers were in control throughout as they scored nine in the bottom of the first inning.
Fox Chapel 18, Peters Township 7
Ella Eisner homered and doubled, Summer Burkhart drove in four runs and Fox Chapel defeated Peters Township 18-7 in a nonsection game.
Lucy Wicker drove in three runs and Nina Logero had three hits, including a double, for PT (3-14).
South Fayette 9, Chartiers Valley 3
Maddie Cavenaugh hit a grand slam in the fourth inning on Monday, which helped South Fayette earn a 9-3 win over Chartiers Valley in a game that finished Tuesday.
The game was suspended Monday after four innings due to inclement weather and the final three innings were played Tuesday.
South Fayette (7-3, 12-5) is tied with Chartiers Valley (7-3, 10-6) in the Class 5A Section 3 standings, but the Lions swept the season series.
Emma Earley had 12 strikeouts in a complete game for the Lions. Elvie Vuono and Brenna Dunn tripled.
Delaney O’Connor homered for the Colts.
