High school baseball: PT eliminates South Fayette from playoff contention

Peters Township piled up 19 hits, including four from Michael Alspaugh and eliminated South Fayette from playoff contention in the process with an 11-8 win in Class 5A Section 2 action Wednesday.

The Lions (5-7, 9-9) can only finish in a tie for fourth with Trinity and were swept by the Hillers, who have clinched fourth place.

The Hillers finish section play Thursday against Moon.

Peters Township (8-4, 13-6) got three hits each from Jackson Stocker and James Tygard and two from Reese Clark and Zach Miner.

Stocker hit a two-run homer in the eighth, which made it 11-7.

Chaz Kosko singled three times for South Fayette and Cody Bungert added a double, a single and an RBI.

Canon-McMillan 7, Baldwin 1

M.J. Maruschak pitched a complete game allowing only one earned run with five strikeouts and had an RBI single to lead Canon-McMillan to a 7-1 win over Baldwin (9-7) in nonsection play.

Caden Laskosky had a solo homer, a double and a pair of RBI. Massimo Falconi added an RBI double for the Big Macs (13-5) and Tyson Mead hit a double and plated a pair.

Charleroi 2-2 Waynesburg 1-11

Alex VanSickle went 4-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI, sparking Class 3A Section 4 champion Waynesburg to an 11-2 victory over visiting Charleroi.

Charleroi, however, won the completion of a suspended game against Waynesburg, 2-1, in eight innings. Brock Henderson had a walk-off single for Charleroi (9-3, 11-5). It was the first section loss for Waynesburg (11-1, 15-3).

Jefferson-Morgan 8, Jeannette 1

Drew Adams fired a five-hitter as Jefferson-Morgan won its 12th in a row, an 8-1 victory at Jeannette in Class A Section 1.

Adams walked three and struck out nine. The Rockets (9-3, 13-3) scored seven runs over the first two innings.

Carmichaels 6, West Greene 1

Jase Zdravecky allowed one unearned run over seven innings and Carmichaels did all of its scoring in the fourth to beat host West Greene 6-1 in Class A Section 1.

Zdravecky scattered seven hits, did not issue a walk and struck out nine in a 98-pitch complete game.

Robbie Wilson-Jones and Jordan Davis each hit a double for Carmichaels (9-3, 12-4).

Jackson Grimes had three singles for West Greene (2-10, 3-13).

Ringgold 6, Laurel Highlands 0

Three Ringgold pitchers combined on a two-hit shutout as the Rams blanked Laurel Highlands 6-0 in Class 4A Section 2.

Tyler Fisher pitched the first five innings, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out seven. Ashton Mincin and Connor David each tossed one innings of relief.

Sam Allen had three hits, including two doubles, and drove in three for Ringgold (7-5, 9-9).

Serra Catholic 10, Belle Vernon 0

Serra Catholic shut out Belle Vernon 10-0 in five innings in a nonsection game. The Leopards were held to one hit.
