Parker Lind pitched a three-hit shutout and Belle Vernon did all of its scoring in two innings Wednesday as the Leopards blanked Derry 7-0 in a WPIAL Class 4A first-round baseball game at Gateway.

It was the first playoff win in 13 years for the Leopards.

Lind struck out 13 and walked three in a 108-pitch outing. He allowed three singles.

Fifth-seeded Belle Vernon (15-6) plays No. 4 Beaver in the quarterfinals Tuesday.

The Leopards scored three times in the third inning and added four insurance runs in the sixth.

Connor Bergman doubled and drove in two runs, and Cole Matusik also had a pair of RBI.

Pine-Richland 1, Trinity 0

Trinity was one clutch hit shy of upsetting top-seeded Pine-Richland.

Keegan Deihl pitched a two-hit shutout and Pine-Richland edged Trinity 1-0 in a Class 5A first-round game at Plum.

Pine-Richland (18-3) scored the game’s only run in the first inning on, of all things, a balk.

The rest of the game was scoreless. Trinity’s Matthew Robaugh had a single and drew a walk. The other Trinity hit was a single by Garrett Stoy. In the seventh inning, Kaden Hathaway was hit by a pitch with two outs and advanced to second on a throwing error. A strikeout ended the game.

Trinity pitcher J.R. Rieg was stellar as he threw a four-hitter. He struck out four and walked two.

Ringgold 9, Blackhawk 5

Eleventh-seeded Ringgold scored seven runs over the final three innings to rally and upset sixth-seeded Blackhawk 9-5 in a Class 4A game at West Mifflin.

Ringgold (11-10) will face section rival Elizabeth Forward in the quarterfinals Tuesday.

The Rams trailed 3-2 after four innings but winning pitcher Tyler Fisher hit a two-run single in the Rams’ three-run fifth that put Ringgold ahead for good. The Rams added three runs in the sixth.

Fisher pitched five innings and Jimmy Nash threw two frames for a save.

Gavin Angotti had three hits and scored three runs for the Rams and Demetri Lowe had a double.
