Winning pitcher Brooke Bumer scattered seven hits and Canon-McMillan did all of its scoring in two innings as the fourth-seeded Big Macs defeated fifth-seeded Pine-Richland 6-1 in a Class 6A first-round game at Fox Chapel.

It was the third win in as many meetings for Canon-McMillan (13-8) over Pine-Richland (13-8) and sends the Big Macs into the semifinals next week against top-seeded Hempfield.

C-M scored all the runs it would need in the bottom of the first inning as Addy Downey had an RBI single for the first run and the second scored on a double play.

Bummer was stellar as she struck out seven and did not issue a walk. She kept P-R off the scoreboard until the sixth. C-M answered with four runs in its half of the sixth. Callie Stonemark had a bases-loaded single and an error on the same play allowed the second run to score. Aurora Shirdon and Hailey Swope followed with consecutive sacrifice flies to make it 6-1.

Shaler 9, Trinity 0

Bria Boslijevac threw a no-hitter and Alyssa Schafford hit a three-run homer as second-seeded Shaler blanked Trinity 9-0 in a Class 5A quarterfinal game at West Mifflin.

Boslijevac struck out 12 and did not walk a batter. Trinity, the No. 10 seed, did get two runners on base, both via hit by pitches.

The game was scoreless into the fourth inning before Shaler (16-4) scored three times, then added two runs in the fifth and four in the sixth, which included the Schafford home run.

Trinity ends the season with a 12-10 record that includes one postseason victory.
