High school baseball: Belle Vernon’s Lind extends scoreless streak
Parker Lind threw his second consecutive postseason gem as Belle Vernon blanked Beaver 5-0 in a WPIAL Class 4A quarterfinal game at Burkett Park on Monday
Lind pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and three walks. He struck out 11.
Lind pitched Belle Vernon to a shutout over Derry in the first round last week. In two postseason starts, Lind has 13⅔ scoreless innings with 24 strikeouts.
The Leopards scored the only run they would need in the third inning and added two more in the fourth. Jaden Johnson drove in a pair of runs and Alonzo Wade had two hits.
Belle Vernon (16-6) will play top-seeded Indiana in the semifinals tonight at Plum.
Peters Township 7, Mars 6, 10 innings
Jackson Stocker drew a bases-loaded walk in the 10th inning to give Peters Township a 7-6 win over Mars in a Class 5A quarterfinals game played at Gateway.
Peters Township (15-7) will play in the semifinals today at Plum against either Shaler or Connellsville.
Mars scored two runs in the seventh to force extra innings tied at 6-6.
Nathan Skroupa had a two-run triple in the Indians’ three-run second inning that gave them an early 4-2 lead.
Elizabeth Forward 8, Ringgold 5
Ringgold got to Elizabeth Forward ace Cy Herschelroath early, scoring five times over the first three innings but that’s all the Rams could muster in an 8-5 loss to the section rivals in the Class 4A quarterfinals at West Mifflin.
It was the third win for EF (15-3) over Ringgold (11-11). The Warriors scored seven times over the first two innings and led 7-5 after three.
Ringgold got to Herschelroath for seven hits but the Rams were victimized by their four errors that led to six unearned runs.
Tyler Fisher, Demetri Lowe and Paul Dzyak each had a double for Ringgold. Fisher drove in a pair of runs.
