Waynesburg served loss in PIAA debut

CORRY – Waynesburg’s historic girls volleyball season came to an end Tuesday night with a three-set loss at District 10 champion Corry in the first round of the PIAA Class 2A playoffs.

Corry won 26-24, 25-19, 25-15.

The loss ends Waynesburg’s first trip to the state tournament with a 21-2 record.

All three games were close and Waynesburg had early leads in the first two. The Raiders had a six-point advantage (11-5) in the opening set before Corry went on a 14-3 run to win the game.

Waynesburg led 10-7 in the second set but again Corry battled back and finished strong to win 25-19.

The final game was close until Corry forged a 9-1 run to end with a 25-15 victory.

Ani Cree had 15 kills to lead Waynesburg. She reached the 500-kill mark for her career.
