Wash High cruises past Charleroi
CHARLEROI – Wash High continued its recent run of dominant play with a 61-9 win over Charleroi in Class 2A Century Conference play Friday night.
In the last six games, the Prexies have outscored their opponents 257-43.
Tristan Reed connected with JaQuay Heyman on a 54-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring. Reed then scored on a one-yard run and connected with Blaise Naraskivitch on a 3-yard touchdown to put Washington (4-0, 7-1) up 19-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Heyman scored on a 16-yard run to increase the lead to 25-0 before Charleroi (1-3, 1-7) got on the board on a Dylan Klinger 32-yard field goal.
Jahvon Woods found the end zone from 31 yards out to make it 32-3. Elijah Allah got Charleroi’s lone touchdown on a 27-yard run, which cut the deficit to 32-10, but Washington got another touchdown before halftime.
Reed connected with Ameer Nelson for a 40-yard score and it was 39-9 going into the break.
Reed finished 6 for 7 passing for 167 yards and three touchdowns.
A 54-yard run by Nelson in the third quarter put the game into mercy rule. Jamarie Walker had a 35-yard touchdown and Alfonzo Whittaker scored from 13-yard to close the scoring.
Wash High amassed 239 yards on the ground and had 460 yards of total offense. The Prexies’ defense limited Charleroi to 170 yards.
Washington plays Carlynton next Friday. If the Prexies win that game it’ll set up a Century Conference title clash with Seton LaSalle in two weeks at Dormont Stadium.
