MONONGAHELA – No one is quite sure, but Tuesday’s Washington County Coaches Cross Country Meet was one for the books.

Dravin Everley of Ringgold and Adelaide Lulich of Peters Township made their first trip to the Washington County Coaches Cross Country Meet something to remember.

Both runners won their races but won’t have a chance to repeat the performance. That’s because both are seniors and will head off to college next year. But on this day, a special one at that, nothing was finer than one and done.

Everley spent the past few years on the Rams football team before committing to the cross country team.

“It was the second best run I’ve had,” said Everley of yesterday’s effort. “My best run came at the Bald Eagle (Invitational), 16:04. I took the lead coming up the hill on the second mile.

“I came out for track season and I got pushed into cross country.”

Lulich was in the top 20 for the Red, White and Blue Classic but this was her first event where she finished first.

Lulich is a 1,600-meter run specialist in track but found the calling of cross country too enticing to pass up.

“I was just running for fun before this,” Lulich said. “I decided to come out for cross country this summer. I put in about 20 miles a week.”

Everley glided through the Monongahela course in 16.16.59 while Lulich crossed the finish line first in the girls race with a 19.16.68. Lulich’s teammate Madison Fellin was second and Taylor Dubois of Canon-McMillan was third.

Everley crossed first in the boys meet in 16:16.59.

Everley’s performance was outstanding considering he got the best of defending champion Devin Junko of Trinity. Junko turned in a 16:27:12 in winning the event last year. Colton Silvestri of Peters Township was third with a 16:40.39.

“I’ve raced him about three times,” Junko said of Everley. “I needed to pick up the pace a little bit. That’s where he got me. My fastest time is 16:16.”

Canon-McMillan won the girls team title and boys event in Class 3A. Ringgold boys won the Class 2A-A team title.
