High School Soccer: Bentworth boys cruise to WPIAL first round win
Austin Hollier netted four goals to lead top-seeded Bentworth (18-0) to an 8-0 win over Brentwood (7-10-1) in the WPIAL Class A first round. Adam Moessner and Ryan Moessner scored twice each for the Bearcats, who advanced to play No. 9 Eden Christian in Wednesday’s quarterfinals.
Eden Christian 1, Beth-Center 0 (shootout)
No. 8 Beth-Center (11-7) lost in a penalty shootout to No. 9 Eden Christian (8-9) in the Class A first round. The Warriors won the penalty shootout 3-1.
Hampton 4, Belle Vernon 0
Xavier Ware had two goals to help top-seeded Hampton (15-2-2) defeat No. 16 Belle Vernon, 4-0, in the Class 3A first round. Carson Colvin, Landon Bierker added a goal each for the Talbots. Morgan Bunch made 14 saves for the Leopards, who finished the season 8-11-1.
Chartiers Valley 3, Trinity 2
Cooper Cincinnati and John Garcia scored a goal each, but No. 11 Trinity (10-6-1) fell 3-2 to No. 6 Chartiers Valley (10-4-1) in the Class 3A first round. The Colts scored twice on set pieces, once on a corner and once on a free kick and had a goal on a penalty kick.
Beaver County Christian 4, Chartiers-Houston 0
Fourth-seeded Beaver County Christian (15-2) secured a 4-0 shutout of No. 13 Chartiers-Houston (10-8) in the Class A first round Saturday.
