MONESSEN – Monessen’s Tavian Taylor scored a game-tying 15-yard touchdown scamper in the third quarter and added a go-ahead conversion run, and the Greyhounds held on the rest of the way to beat Cornell 30-28 in a Black Hills Conference game Friday night.

The win puts Monessen (3-3, 6-4) in position to gain a wild card into the Class A playoffs. Cornell (2-4, 5-5) let a second-half lead slip away for the second consecutive week.

Cornell led 20-14 at halftime but Monessen went ahead at 22-20 in the third quarter on a Taylor two-yard TD run and conversion run. Cornell’s Khylil Johnson scored his third touchdown of the game on a 25-yard pass from Mark Stuckey to put the Raiders back on top, but Taylor’s second TD of the quarter won the game for Monessen.
