If the Washington Prexies were suffering any kind of malaise after losing out on winning the Class 2A Century Conference title and a first-round playoff bye last week, they hid it well as they went to work Friday night at Wash High Stadium in the opening round of the playoffs.

Washington (9-2) took care of Beaver Falls (4-7) to the tune of 37-8.

The Prexies will face South Allegheny, who defeated Waynesburg, next weekend.

Tristan Reed was the catalyst on offense as he ran for two touchdowns and passed for two scores.

The Prexie’ defense got the Halloween festivities off to a strong start when they forced a Tigers turnover on downs near midfield on the game’s opening possession. Washington did march to the Beaver Falls 1-yard line on its ensuing drive, but was stopped short on fourth and goal. Reed’s sneak was stifled, giving the ball back to Beaver Falls.

Jahvon Woods then struck the game’s first blow when he tackled Beaver Falls quarterback Kenny Jewell in the end zone for a safety, notching two points for the hosts and giving them the ball..

Blaise Naraskivitch returned the free kick to the Tigers 31. Reed scored on a 13-yard quarterback scramble several plays later. Tyler Crawford’s kick was good, giving the Prexies a 9-0 advantage late in the opening quarter.

Caleb Patton then intercepted Jewell on the Tigers’ next drive near midfield. He returned it to the Beaver Falls 17, setting up the Prexies to take a firm grasp on the contest.

Patton gathered in a Reed throw for a 17-yard scoring reception that gave Washington a 16-0 lead a mere 58 seconds into the second quarter.

Washington forced a Beaver Falls punt on the next possession. This time the Prexies offense did not need to step on the field as JaQuay Heyman returned the punt 47 yards for a score and a 23-0 lead at the 9:16 mark of the second quarter.

Beaver Falls did threaten late in the half when they moved to the Prexies’ 15. Their drive was highlighted by a 28-yard Christian Dawkins run. But the Prexies’ defense again struck and ended the threat with back to back sacks by Woods and Trenton Grooms on third and fourth down respectively.

Washington put the game away on their opening drive of the second half when they went 49 yards in seven plays. Reed capped the march when he fielded a low shotgun snap and ran into the end zone for a five-yard score., ballooning the Prexies lead to 30-0.

Beaver Falls attempted a fake punt from their own 29, but Jamarie Walker tackled Jewell behind the line of scrimmage for a four-yard loss. Washington made the Tigers pay on the very next play when Reed hit Ameer Nelsen from 25 yards for a score, pushing the game into mercy rule territory at 37-0.

The Tigers were able to cobble together a scoring drive as the third quarter melted into the fourth. Dawkins took a draw handoff and rumbled in from 13 yards. Jewell ran in the two-point conversion.
