South Fayette holds off EF

South Fayette built a 17-point lead by the end of the first quarter, but had to hold on late to defeat Elizabeth-Foward 27-24 Friday night.
Ryan Messina hit Brayden Kollar with a 29-yard touchdown pass with just over a minute and a half remaining to pull the Warriors (3-1) within three points, but that’s as close as they’d get.
South Fayette (3-1) led 20-3 after one quarter on a pair of touchdown passes by Drew Welhorsky and a 92-yard touchdown run by Aayden Wright.
Welhorsky connected with Daniel Speca on a 62-yard touchdown and found Wright for a 37-yard score. Welhorsky also had a nine-yard run in the fourth quarter, which proved to be the winning touchdown.
Wright finished with 145 yards rushing and Welhorsky had 107 yards on the ground and 138 yards passing.
Messina threw a 12-yard touchdown to Dominic Clark at the midpoint of the second quarter and scored on a nine-yard run in the fourth.
Messina finished with 323 yards passing. He completed 26 of 37 passes.
