Good start key to South Fayette win

McDONALD – Daniel Speca returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown, Aayden Wright had two TDs, including a 78-yard return of an interception, as South Fayette defeated Belle Vernon 28-7 in a non-conference game Friday night.

South Fayette (4-1) built a 21-0 lead in the second quarter.

Speca’s kickoff return was the only scoring of the first quarter, but in the second Drew Welhorsky threw 37 yards to Braden Plasko for a touchdown and Wright made it 21-0 with a one-yard plunge.

Belle Vernon (1-3) scored in the final minute of the first half on a one-yard TD run by Curtis Wade.

Wright’s interception return was the only scoring of the second half.

Welhorsky completed 10 of 17 passes for 150 yards. Belle Vernon’s Chase Petrosky ran for 108 yards on 18 carries.
