High school softball: Humphreys’ big game powers Trinity

Gabby Humphreys had a day to remember Thursday, hitting two home runs, a double and was the winning pitcher with nine strikeouts in a 12-2 win for Trinity (3-1, 8-1) over Connellsville (1-3, 5-3) in Class 5A Section 4 softball action.

Humphreys drove in three runs and yielded three hits over six innings pitched. Maddie Ray also homered for the Hillers. Elora Friend and Ally Krenzelak tripled and Nina Christy doubled.

Montour 4, South Fayette 3: Emmy Ellis hit a walk-off single to propel Montour (2-0, 4-1) to a 4-3 win over South Fayette (1-2, 2-5) in Class 5A Section 3.

South Fayette led 3-2 after a three-run homer by Cam Valentino to center field in the top of the seventh inning, but Natalie Ciamacco smacked an RBI double to tie it in the bottom half before Ellis’ walk-off single.

Chartiers-Houston 10, Burgettstown 3: Lauren Rush went 4-for-4, Seanna Riggle drove in four runs and Chartiers-Houston remained undefeated with a 10-3 victory over visiting Burgettstown in Class 2A Section 3.

It was the first time this season that Chartiers-Houston (3-0, 8-0) was forced to play beyond five innings.

Burgettstown took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but C-H used a pair of three-run frames and a six-run sixth to clinch the win.

Riggle, who was 3-for-4, had a double and triple. Rush and Sophia Robinson also doubled to back the winning pitching of Taryne Drilak, who struck out 11.

Brooklyn Robinson doubled and drove in a pair for Burgettstown (1-1, 2-3).

Carmichaels 10, West Greene 0: Joselyn Carter hit two home runs and Bailey Barnyak pitched a one-hitter over six innings with 14 strikeouts in a 10-0 victory for Carmichaels (2-0, 4-2) over Class A Section 2 rival West Greene (1-1, 4-3).

Carter hit a three-run homer as part of a five-run first inning and smacked a two-run shot in the sixth.

Barnyak had three hits, including a double. Sydney Miller drove in two runs and had a pair of singles.

Madelyn Roberts had the lone hit for West Greene.

Washington 5, Frazier 3: Tateionna Warren hit a go-ahead, two-run single in the top of the sixth, which helped Wash High (2-0, 5-1) claim a 5-3 win over Frazier (1-2, 3-4) in Class 2A Section 4 action.

Warren and Faith Partizoti had three hits each for the Prexies, who finished with a dozen hits.

Chessa Henderson struck out four in a complete game for Wash High in the circle. She allowed two earned runs on 10 hits.

Elizabeth Forward 10, Belle Vernon 0: Hannah Evans smacked two runs, Berlyn Holibaugh twirled a three-hitter and Elizabeth Forward blanked visiting Belle Vernon 10-0 in a six-inning Class 4A Section 2 game.

EF (5-0, 6-1) has won six in a row.
