High school baseball: Angotti, Koziel spark Ringgold over AG
Gavin Angotti went 4-for-4 with four extra-base hits, four RBI and three runs, powering Ringgold to an 11-0 win at Albert Gallatin in Class 4A Section 2 baseball game on Tuesday.
The Rams (2-3, 3-6) received a three-hit shutout by Anthony Koziel, who needed only 75 pitches for the complete game. Koziel did not walk a batter and struck out 10.
Angotti smacked three doubles and a triple and finished with nine total bases.
Avella 11, Jefferson-Morgan 8: Luca Davis drove in three runs and Bryce Wright struck out seven over five innings as Avella remained perfect in Class A Section 1 play with an 11-8 victory over visiting Jefferson-Morgan.
Noah Kimberland had three of Avella’s 11 hits including a double. Wright and Jorden Moore also doubled as the Eagles moved to 5-0 in section and 7-1 overall.
Drew Adams drove in three runs and Deakyn DeHoet doubled for J-M (1-4, 1-6).
California 9, Beth-Center 1: Logan Hartley struck out six over 11 innings of four-hit ball and did not allow an earned run as California earned a 9-1 win over Beth-Center in Class 2A Section 1.
Harley also had a double and two runs scored. Eli Carpenter belted two doubles and drove in three runs for the Trojans, who improved to 3-0 in section and 4-2 overall. Brody Bebout and Ashten Pinkney doubled for the Bulldogs (0-5, 0-5).
Fort Cherry 8, Frazier 3: Ben Demascal hit a tiebreaking RBI single in the fifth inning and Fort Cherry went on to an 8-3 victory over host Frazier in Class 2A Section 1.
Demascal’s hit gave the undefeated Rangers (5-0, 7-0) a 3-2 lead and a groundout by Blake Sweder brought home another run, giving Fort Cherry a two-run cushion.
The Rangers sealed the win with a four-run seventh inning.
Winning pitcher Dylan Lueck tossed a complete game and did not issue a walk.
Landon Trnavsky tripled for the Rangers.
Bethel Park 4, South Fayette 1: If you missed the sixth inning of Bethel Park’s Class 5A Section 2 home game against South Fayette, then you missed just about the entire game.
After five scoreless innings, South Fayette pushed across a run in the top of the sixth, only to have Bethel Park score four times in the bottom half to beat the Lions, 4-1.
South Fayette took its lead on a two-out RBI double by Jacob Bostian.
Bethel Park moved ahead on an RBI fielder’s choice and sacrifice fly, and Micha Haladio followed with a two-run double.
Tyler Stewart, the second of three Bethel Park pitchers, was the winner.
Jeannette 7, Carmichaels 4: Jeannette dominated the middle innings and won at Carmichaels, 7-4 in Class A Section 1.
Carmichaels (3-2, 4-4) led 3-1 after two innings, but Jeannette (1-2, 4-3) scored two runs in each of the next three frames to forge a 7-3 advantage.
Two Jeannette pitchers held Carmichaels to six hits.
Noah Rattigan hit a two-run homer to give Jeannette a 5-3 lead in the fourth inning.
West Greene 15, Mapletown 0: West Greene used a 10-run inning to win its first game of the season, 15-0 over visiting Mapletown in Class A Section 1.
West Greene (1-2, 1-5) broke a scoreless tie by scoring 10 times on six hits, three walks and two hit batsmen in the third inning.
Joel Rizor had a double for the Pioneers.
Sewickley Academy 16, Monessen 1: Sewickley Academy took advantage of 12 walks and four errors by Monessen to beat the Greyhounds 16-1 in four innings in Class A Section 3.
