High school softball: Robinson’s big game leads Burgettstown to win
Burgettstown won its second game in as many days, riding a two-hit shutout by Brooklyn Robinson for a 15-0 victory over Carlynton in Class 2A Section 3 on Tuesday.
Robinson had a big game all around. She allowed only two hits and one walk and struck out nine. At the plate, she went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and four RBI. Raya Sentipal scored three runs.
Burgettstown is 3-1 in section and 4-3 overall.
West Greene 10, Jefferson-Morgan 8: West Greene scored seven runs over the first two innings and held on for a 10-8 victory over visiting Jefferson-Morgan in a key Class A Section 2 game.
Josie Mason had a big day out of the DP spot for West Greene (2-1, 5-3), going 3-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and a game-high six RBI.
Kendra Tharp scored three runs, Emmaline Beazell had 2 hits and scored three times and Madelyn Roberts added two hits.
Jefferson-Morgan (3-1, 6-2) trailed 7-0 after two innings but used a five-run fifth to close to within 8-6.
Gabby Marmie also had two hits and scored twice for the Rockets.
Caitlyn Whyte was the winning pitcher with three innings of relief.
Monessen 13, Leechburg 3: Grace Klingenpeel and Joey Hurst had three hits apiece as Monessen (1-2, 1-5) earned its first win of the season, a 13-3 rout of Leechburg (0-2, 0-4) in five innings in Class A Section 3.
Hurst doubled twice and drove in four runs, while Kingenpeel drove in three runs.
The Greyhounds pounded out a dozen hits and scored six runs in the fourth inning.
McGuffey 17, Steel Valley 2: Miley Main tossed a four-hitter and helped her cause by smacking two of McGuffey’s six extra-base hits as the Highlanders routed Steel Valley 17-2 in five innings in Class 3A Section 3.
Main struck out seven and walked only one as McGuffey improved to 2-1 in section and 2-2 overall. At the plate, she had a double and a triple among her three hits.
Maura Janovich matched Main with a double and triple. Julianna Ward went 3-for-3 with a triple, and Courtney Bedillion contributed three hits, including a double.
Brooke Grimm hit a solo home run for Steel Valley (1-3, 2-3).
Mount Pleasant 10, Ringgold 0: Aubrie Keslar threw a four-hit shutout and Mount Pleasant scored six runs in the first inning en route to a 10-0 five-inning victory over Ringgold in a nonsection game.
Addy Allen had two of the four hits for Ringgold (0-5).
South Park 7, Charleroi 0: Sydney Sekely pitched a complete game three-hitter with 13 strikeouts and went 3-for-3 with two RBI in a 7-0 win for South Park (3-0, 6-0) over Charleroi (1-2, 2-4) in a Class 3A Section 3 game.
Jada Sheppick, Ariahna Blouse and Payton Huweart had one hit apiece for Charleroi.
Washington 14, Quaker Valley 0: Washington blanked Quaker Valley 14-0 in a non-section game. No game details were made available to the Observer-Reporter by press time.
