High school baseball: Fort Cherry’s Temple hits 3 homers, walks off KO
The baseball field at Fort Cherry, with its short dimensions, is designed for offense. And there was plenty of offense Friday.
Colton Temple hit three of Fort Cherry’s six home runs, including a walk-off two-run blast in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Rangers rallied for a wild 15-13 win over Keystone Oaks in nonsection action.
The win keeps Fort Cherry undefeated at 9-0.
The Rangers had to rally in this one. Keystone Oaks (3-5) led 4-0 in the second inning and 11-6 in the fifth and 13-8 in the sixth. Fort Cherry scored five times in the sixth, which included a Landon Trnavsky home run and Tyler Wolfe’s second homer of the game, to tie the score at 13-13.
In the seventh, Trnavsky led off with a walk and Temple followed with his game-winning homer to right field.
Temple finished the day 3-for-5 with six RBI. Wolfe went 3-for-4 with four RBI.
Brandon Kaminski homered and doubled for KO.
Canon-McMillan 8, Norwin 2: Massimo Falconi went 3-for-3 with two runs and a pair of RBI, Matthew Kocan did not allow an earned run in tossing a complete game and undefeated Canon-McMillan beat Norwin 8-2 to sweep the three-game series in Class 6A Section 2.
C-M fell behind 2-1 in the first inning when Norwin’s Caden Sivrich hit a two-run homer after a two-out error.
The Big Macs answered with four runs in the second inning to take the lead for good.
C-M’s M.J. Maruschak hit a two-run homer and Troy Stimpson had an RBI triple.
Avella 12, Monessen 1: Bryce Wright went 3-for-3 and drove in five runs to power Avella to a 12-1 thumping of Monessen in five innings.
Wright had two doubles and a triple as the Eagles improved to 8-2.
Winning pitcher Cam Ullom allowed three hits and an unearned run. He struck out nine.
Jefferson-Morgan 7, Charleroi 2: Brayden Ellsworth pitched a five-hitter and Jefferson-Morgan defeated visiting Charleroi 7-2 in nonsection action.
Ellsworth struck out six as the Rockets improved their record to 3-6.
J-M scored the game’s first four runs. Dayten Marion drove in two runs and scored three times. Deakyn DeHoet had a double.
California 15, West Greene 0: California ran its winning streak to three games with a 15-0 shutout of visiting West Greene in only three innings.
California (6-2) scored 12 runs in the first inning on seven singles, four errors, two walks and a hit batsman. The inning ended with a double play.
Two California pitchers held West Greene (2-7) without a hit.
Jeannette 12, Washington 3: Noah Rattigan belted two homers and drove in six runs, powering Jeannette to a 12-3 win over Washington in a nonsection contest.
Jeannette (5-4) did all of its scoring in two innings, a six-run first and six-run fifth.
Caleb Patton went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI, and Noah Patton also doubled for Wash High (5-5).
Chartiers-Houston 6, Burgettstown 3: Aaron Walsh had three hits, Parker Riggle smacked two doubles and Luke Beresh tossed six strong innings as Chartiers-Houston won at Burgettstown 6-3 in Class 2A Section 1.
Chartiers-Houston (5-2, 6-4) trailed 3-1 before taking the lead in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Walsh.
Jayden Roach doubled and drove in two runs to lead Burgettstown (1-3, 3-5).
Seton LaSalle 16, South Fayette 5: Conner Rothbaar and Sebastian Norkevieus both drove in four runs, sparking Seton LaSalle to a 16-5 win at South Fayette in five innings nonsection play.
The Rebels had a pair of five-run innings.
