High school baseball: Waynesburg’s Tretinik blanks McGuffey
Waynesburg gave Jarrett Tretinik little offensive support Wednesday night but the Waynesburg pitcher didn’t need much as he threw a four-hit shutout in the Raiders’ 1-0 win over McGuffey in a Class 3A Section 4 game at EQT Park.
The teams split their two-game series with each winning via shutout. Waynesburg is 4-4 in section and 4-9 overall. McGuffey is 3-5, 5-8.
The only run of the game scored in the fourth inning when Lucas Slifko’s sacrifice fly brought home C.J. Corwin.
That was all Tretinik needed as struck out four, walked only one and needed just 94 pitches for the complete game.
Jaxon Parker and Logan Bochna each hit a double for Waynesburg. Preston Hornack had a two-bagger for McGuffey.
Belle Vernon 12, Charleroi 2: Zach Plymire and Connor Bergman hit back-to-back home runs in Belle Vernon’s nine-run top of the first inning and the Leopards rolled to a 12-2 win over Charleroi in a nonsection game.
Bergman hit his second home run of the game in the fourth inning. Plymire finished with four RBI.
Dylan Klinger had a double for Charleroi.
Fort Cherry 12, Chartiers-Houston 4: Colton Temple allowed one earned run over five innings, Dylan Lueck drove in three runs and Fort Cherry remained unbeaten in Class 2A Section 1 by beating Chartiers-Houston 12-4 on Tuesday night at EQT Park.
Temple scattered five hits and struck out eight.
The Rangers (8-0 in section) had a pair of four-run innings to forge an early 9-1 lead.
Julius Livingston had a double among his three hits for C-H (5-4, 7-6). Brady Gotfredson drove in two runs.
Fort Cherry plays a key series against California next week. Both teams are unbeaten in section play.
