High school baseball: Waynesburg walks off Keystone Oaks

C.J. Corwin’s two-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Jaxon Parker from second base and gave Waynesburg a 5-4 come-from-behind win over Keystone Oaks in a Class 3 Section 4 baseball game played Tuesday in Carmichaels.

Waynesburg (5-5, 6-10) split the two-game series with KO (5-5, 7-8) as both teams are fighting for a playoff berth.

The Raiders went to the bottom of the seventh trailing, 4-3. An error started the inning and two singles, the second a shot to left field by Austin Surber, tied the score.

Surber was the winning pitcher with one inning of relief.

Jarrett Tretinik went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs for Waynesburg.

Charleroi 10, Brownsville 0: Jaxson Klinger hit a two-run homer in the first inning and Charleroi went on to a 10-0 win over visiting Brownsville in a five-inning Class 3A Section 4 game.

Charleroi swept the two-game series.

Klinger finished with three RBI to back the winning pitching of Brock Henderson, who twirled a two-hit shutout. Henderson struck out seven and did not issue a walk.

Burgettstown 10, Frazier 3: Burgettstown scored seven runs in the third inning to wipe away an early deficit and the Blue Devils went on to a 10-3 win over Frazier.

Burgettstown swept the Class 2A Section 1 series. The playoff-bound Blue Devils are 5-5 in section and 7-9 overall.

Matthew Bredel pitched a five-hitter and was backed by a 13-hit Burgettstown attack. Blake Neal was 3-for-4 with a double and four RBI, Colton County and Jayden Roach also doubled and Bryce Speers drove in a pair.

Frazier led 3-0 in the third inning.

Ringgold 5, Mount Pleasant 0: Anthony Koziel fired a four-hit shutout, needing only 76 pitches, and Michael Green drove in two runs as Ringgold blanked visiting Mount Pleasant 5-0 in nonsection action.

Koziel struck out six and did not issue a walk. All four Mount Pleasant hits were singles.

Ringgold is 8-9.

Avella 11, Carmichaels 1: Chas Rush pitched four shutout innings and Brayden Fuller drove in three runs, powering Avella to an 11-1 win over Carmichaels in a five-inning Class A Section 1 game.

The teams split the two-game series. Avella, which has clinched a playoff berth, is 8-4 in section and 11-6 overall. Carmichaels, which is battling Jefferson-Morgan and Jeannette for a playoff spot, is 5-5, 6-9.

Avella scored seven runs in the third inning to open a 10-0 lead.

Rush had the game’s only extra-base hit, a double.

Jeannette 16, Mapletown 1: Noah Rattigan homered, doubled and drove in four runs as Jeannette defeated visiting Mapletown 16-1 in four innings in Class A Section 1.

The lone run for Mapletown was a solo homer by Carson Vanata.

Jeannette, which is battling for a playoff spot, is 5-5 in section and 9-6 overall. Mapletown is 0-10, 2-15.

Greensburg Central Catholic 14, Avella 4: Tyler Samide and Carson Kramer each drove in three runs and undefeated Greensburg Central Catholic pulled away late for a 14-4 win over West Greene in Class A Section 1.

The game was tied 4-4 in the fifth inning, when GCC (10-0, 11-0) scored four runs. The Centurions ended the game with a six-run sixth.

Winning pitcher Stephen Kochis struck out seven over 4.1 innings of relief.

Darren Knight had two hits for West Greene (2-8, 2-14).

Trinity 8, Peters Township 4: Trinity scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to beat Peters Township 8-4 in a key Class 5A Section 2 game Monday night at Ross Memorial Park.

The game was tied 4-4 before Trinity’s Asher Donley led off the bottom of the sixth with a double and scored on a single by Landon Conn. Ayvari Chandler added a two-run triple in the inning and he scored on a sacrifice fly by Jonah Williamson.

Williamson hit a three-run homer in the third inning. PT’s David Oberschelp hit a solo homer.

Trinity pitchers Karson Hathaway and Aaron Harshman combined on a five-hitter with 13 strikeouts.

Chartiers-Houston 5, Jefferson-Morgan 3: Brady Gotfredson singled home Aaron Walsh with the go-ahead run in Chartiers-Houston’s three-run fifth inning and the Bucs went on to beat Jefferson-Morgan 5-3 in a nonsection game Monday night at EQT Park.

Josh Hawkins also had an RBI single in the fifth inning, which began with the score tied 2-2.

C-H pitcher Brady Robaugh threw a six-hitter and allowed only one earned run.

Brayden Ellsworth had two hits, and John Woodward and Austin Grandel doubled for Jefferson-Morgan (9-7).
