Wash High is back in the WPIAL boys basketball playoffs after a one-year hiatus.

Washington clinched a berth in the postseason Tuesday night by beating Carlynton 56-43 at Wash High gymnasium.

The win gives the Prexies a 4-5 record in Class 3A Section 2 and a 10-10 overall mark.

Wash High took control early and led 14-6 after one quarter and 30-15 at halftime. Carlynton (1-8, 5-16) couldn’t generate enough offense to fuel a comeback in the second half, though the Cougars did pull to within 40-28 after three quarters.

Tristan Reed had a monster game for the Prexies, scoring 21 points and pulling down 18 rebounds. Vincent Johnson finished with 16 points and Will Callan had 10.

Carlynton had three players in double figures, led by Dewayne Fisher’s 14 points.

Fort Cherry 63, West Greene 42

Fort Cherry prepared for the upcoming playoffs with a 63-42 victory over visiting West Greene in Class 2A Section 3.

Connor Vansickle led three Rangers in double figures with 16 points. He was followed by Tyler Wolfe with 12 points and Landon Trnavsky had 11. The Rangers are 9-4 in section and 11-8 overall.

Landon Hill led West Greene (6-7, 7-12) with 13 points.

Ligonier Valley 63, Waynesburg 44

Michael Wisniewski pumped in 31 points, powering Ligonier Valley to a 63-44 victory over host Waynesburg in Class 3A Section 4.

Waynesburg’s Dane Woods scored 27 points and netted his 1,000th career point. He had a double-double with 12 rebounds.

Cole Headlee scored 10 points for the Raiders.

Charleroi 96, Brownsville 65

Charleroi had its offense in high gear as the Cougars thumped visiting Brownsville 96-65 in Class 3A Section 4.

The Cougars led 19-11 after one quarter, then scored a whopping 36 points in the second quarter to move out to a 55-29 halftime lead.

Xavion Thomas led Charleroi with 24 points. The Cougars put five players in double figures as Jackson Kerano and Braeden Todaro each netted 12 points, Mikey Lee had 11 and Logan Usher scored 10.

Charleroi is 6-3 in section and 12-9 overall.

Beth-Center 74, Burgettstown 54

Tyler Kurowski scored a game-high 22 points as Beth-Center moved above the .500 mark with a 74-54 win over visiting Burgettstown in Class 2A Section 3.

Kurowski led three B-C players in double figures. Tyler Wicks netted 14 points and Jason Zellie tossed in 13. The win makes the Bulldogs 7-6 in section and 11-10 overall.

Burgettstown (2-11, 5-16) received 15 points from Lance Duran and 14 from Bryce Speer.

South Fayette 54, Trinity 43

South Fayette outscored Trinity in every quarter and defeated the visiting Hillers 54-43 in Class 5A Section 3.

The loss eliminated Trinity (2-9, 4-13) from postseason contention. South Fayette improves to 7-4 in section and 9-10 overall.

Owen Keener led South Fayette with 15 points and Will Scanlon hit double figures with 10.

Trinity’s Ian Migyanko scored a game-high 17 points. Landon Conn had 10.

Chartiers-Houston 63, Mapletown 13

Class 2A Section 3 leader Chartiers-Houston clinched at least a share of the league title with an easy 63-13 thumping of winless Mapletown.

The win gives C-H a 13-0 mark in the section and an 18-3 overall record. The Bucs will host second-place Jefferson-Morgan on Friday. A win by the Bucs will give them the outright section championship.

Against Mapletown (0-13, 0-20), Brayden Shaffer scored 12 points and Ethan Farnham had 10 for the Bucs, who led 39-3 at halftime.

Jefferson-Morgan 68, Carmichaels 41

Jefferson-Morgan kept its section title hopes alive with a 68-41 victory over rival Carmichaels in a Class 2A Section 3 game played on the Rockets’ home court.

Jeremiah Robertson had another big game for the Rockets (12-1, 19-1) by scoring a game-high 28 points. Deyton Marion chipped in with 12 points and Brayden Ellsworth added 11 for the Rockets, who led 41-20 at halftime.

Belle Vernon 53, Greensburg Salem 47

Belle Vernon rallied in the fourth quarter and pulled out a 53-47 win over upset-minded Greensburg Salem in a Class 4A Section 3 game.

Greensburg Salem (3-7, 8-11) led 32-22 at halftime and 38-34 at the end of three quarters. Belle Vernon (9-3, 13-9) won the game with a 19-9 scoring edge over the final eight minutes.

The Leopards received 13 points from Dane Daugherty and 12 from Luca Ghilani.

Solomon Cain had 13 points for Greensburg Salem and Ty Harkom added 12.

Sto-Rox 72, McGuffey 35

Sto-Rox prevented McGuffey from clinching a playoff berth out of Class 3A Section 2 with a 72-35 victory over the Highlanders in a game played on the Vikings’ home court.

Sto-Rox o(4-5, 7-13) moved ahead of McGuffey (3-6, 12-9) in the standings and into a playoff position. The Highlanders must beat Washington on Friday to make the playoffs.

Sto-Rox set the tempo early and took control of the game. The Vikings led 45-24 at halftime.

L.J. Washington scored 23 points for Sto-Rox and M.J. Thomas had 18.

Sam Stout’s eight points were tops for McGuffey.

Girls results

Chartiers-Houston 55, California 37

Chartiers-Houston came out hitting on all cylinders, building a big early lead and rolling to a 55-37 victory over host California that netted the Bucs the outright Class 2A Section 3 championship.

Chartiers-Houston (9-0, 16-3) forged a commanding 25-7 in the first quarter, went into halftime up 40-15 and cruised from there.

MacKenzie Walsh led the way for C-H with a game-high 17 points. She netted 14 points in the first half, including eight in the pivotal first quarter. Ali Wingard also had a big game for the Bucs with 16 points and Ava Kolovich scored 11. Sophie Palone tossed in two key three-point baskets in the big first quarter.

Olivia Gibson scored 14 points for California (7-2, 10-9).

Fort Cherry 59, Brentwood 21: Brooke Cornali poured in 23 points as Fort Cherry won the Class 2A Section 2 title outright with a 59-21 thumping of host Brentwood.

Fort Cherry is 9-0 in the section with one game remaining and 15-5 overall.

Gianna Bianchini added 11 points and Amarah Martino had 10 for the Rangers, who led 32-5 at halftime.

Brentwood is 3-5 in section and 4-15 overall.

South Side Beaver 35, Burgettstown 34

Maladija Pavlovich pumped in 24 points, sparking South Side Beaver to a 35-34 upset of host Burgettstown in a Class 2A Section 2 game between playoff-bound teams.

Burgettstown trailed 18-17 at halftime but moved ahead 25-23 after three quarters. SSB held a 12-9 scoring edge in the pivotal fourth quarter.

Paige Klodowski scored 13 points to pace Burgettstown and Savanna Rush had 10.

West Greene 42, Monessen 31

Kendra Tharp led a blanched West Greene attack as the Pioneers won at Monessen, 42-31, in a Class A Section 2.

West Greene (9-4, 14-6) overcame a cold shooting night but played with the lead almost the entire way.

Madelyn Roberts scored 11 points and Jillissa Yeater had 10, helping the Pioneers race out to a 27-12 halftime lead.

Na’jaziah Carter’s nine points were tops for Monessen.

Bentworth 68, Carmichaels 45

Alex Babirad scored 15 points, leading three Bentworth players in double figures as the Bearcats defeated Carmichaels 68-45 in a non-section game.

Bella Moyer added 15 points, Jesse Laskey had 11 and Bre Dillon flipped in 10 for Bentworth (9-11).

Joselyn Carter scored a game-high 16 points for Carmichaels (1-19).

Keystone Oaks 72, Charleroi 29

Hannah York scored 24 points, leading three Keystone Oaks players in double figures as the Golden Eagles defeated host Charleroi 72-29 in Class 3A Section 3.

Natalie Tortorella had 15 points and Kailyn Brannon 10 for KO (6-5, 11-8).

Eden Smith scored 19 points for Charleroi (1-10, 5-14).
