Trinity’s Walther finishes 2nd at WPIAL rifle
CANONSBURG – Butler’s Jackson Jungling won his second consecutive WPIAL Individual rifle title last Thursday at the Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmen’s Club range in Canonsburg.
Jungling shot a perfect 200 with an x count of 18 to defend his title. Eighteen shooters finished with identical 200 scores, but Jungling’s 18 center shots broke the tie and secured his second straight crown.
Trinity’s Ryan Walther finished second with a 200 and 17x. Hempfield’s Chloe Snyder and Armstrong’s Riley Wasson also shot 200, each finishing with 16x and seven inner tens as the top of the leaderboard was separated by the smallest of margins.
The top sixteen finishers qualified for PIAA competition. Of those 16, half are from schools in Washington or Greene counties. Advancing were Walther (2nd), his Trinity teammates Meredith Ashby (7th) and Wesley Shumaker (12th), West Greene’s Khyler Davis (8th) and Dylan Hughes (13th), McGuffey’s Rylee Fuller (10th) and Dakota Goodman (15th) and Avella’s Anna Unger (16th).
