Wrestling roundup: McGuffey pins on perfect section record

McGuffey capped off an undefeated Class 2A Section 1 season with a 59-18 victory over host Chartiers-Houston on Wednesday.
The Highlanders lost the first bout and the final two, but in between they strung together 10 consecutive victories, almost all of them via pin.
Recording the falls for the Highlanders were Blake Jamison (114), Tucker Main (121), Clayton Ealy (127), Lane Ealy (133), Lucas Barr (139), Michael Cosato (145), Victor Bonus (152), Garrett Newman (160) and Aaron Supler (172). Connor Main (189) won by 16-1 technical fall.
Chartiers-Houston opened the bout with a fall at 107 by Holdyn Humphries and Tyler Clayton (215) also won by fall.
Beth-Center 37, Bentworth 36: Beth-Center’s Class 2A Section 3 match at Bentworth was so even that the score was tied 36-36 after the 13 weight classes. So it went to criteria for a tiebreaker and the Bulldogs pulled out the victory based on bout wins.
B-C won seven of the weight classes to Bentworth’s six.
All of Bentworth’s points came on six pins. They were recorded by Brian Mathews (114), Bobby Lemley (121), Drake McClure (139), Bryce Crowson (152), Owen Ivcic (172) and Paxton Thomas (189).
Beth-Center won two boys by fall, Evan Miller at 160 and heavyweight Malachi Peak. The Bulldogs received two forfeits and picked a crucial win at 127 when Shane Cronin won a 4-3 decision.
J-M wins by forfeit: Jefferson-Morgan finished undefeated in Class 2A Section 3 and the Rockets’ final win came in unusual form Wednesday night. Frazier, the Rockets’ scheduled opponent, forfeited the match.
Frazier officials informed Jefferson-Morgan that it could field only three healthy wrestlers so it would forfeit the match that was scheduled to be held at J-M.
The Rockets will compete Saturday at the Sharon Duals.
Patton wins 100th, named OW: Washington’s Caleb Patton won the 145-pound championship last weekend and was named the Outstanding Wrestler at the Mercer VFW tournament.
En route to the title, Patton earned his 100th career victory.
Patton was one of two champions from Washington. The Prexies’ Jahvon Woods won the 152-pound championship. The Prexies finished eighth in the team standings.
Ringgold won the team title and had three champions: Luke Valangevicia at 107 pounds, Evan Tolliver (133) and Cristian Lowther (160).
Avella placed sixth in the team standings and three wrestler with runner-up finishes.
