High school basketball: Jefferson-Morgan wins, improves to 17-1
High school basketball
Seniors Jeremiah Robertson and Dayten Marion combined for 36 points as Jefferson-Morgan remained in the hunt for the Class 2A Section 3 title with a 50-39 victory over visiting West Greene on Tuesday night.
The win improves J-M to 10-1 in section and 17-1 overall. The Rockets have won five in a row.
Jefferson-Morgan doubled up West Greene (5-6, 6-11) in the first half, leading 26-13 at the intermission. The Pioneers held a one-point scoring edge in both the third and fourth quarters.
Robertson scored a game-high 22 points and Marion netted 14.
Matt Wassil paced West Greene with 14 points.
Chartiers-Houston 65, Burgettstown 37: Class 2A Section 3 leader Chartiers-Houston used a big first quarter and a balanced scoring attack to beat host Burgettstown, 65-37.
The Bucs remained unbeaten (11-0) in section play and are 16-3 overall.
Chartiers-Houston forged a 25-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and cruised from that point.
Aaron Walsh led the Bucs in scoring with 14 points. He made four three-point baskets. Wes Yeater followed with 12 points and Bryson Boskovich netted 10.
Burgettstown (2-9, 5-14) was led by Lance Duran’s game-high 15 points.
Beth-Center 59, Carmichaels 56: Jason Zellie led three Beth-Center players in double figures with 17 points in a 59-56 win against Carmichaels in a Class 2A Section 3 game.
Brayden Hull added 16 points for the Bulldogs (5-5, 9-8) and Brayden Ozohonish scored 15.
Chase Ankrom paced the Mikes (2-8, 3-13) with 15 points and Alex Toth chipped in 14 points with four three-pointers.
South Fayette 59, Baldwin 55
Tyson Wright and Braeden Plasko combined for 33 points as South Fayette stormed back in the second half and defeated visiting Baldwin 59-55 in Class 5A Section 3.
Baldwin led 29-24 at halftime, but a 20-9 scoring edge in the third quarter put South Fayette in front to stay.
Wright led the Lions with 17 points and Plasko followed with 16. Owen Keener chipped in with 12.
Girls results
South Fayette 81, Moon 37: The defending state champion South Fayette Lions keep on rolling.
Haylie Lamonde poured in a game-high 31 points, powering South Fayette to its 10th consecutive victory, an 81-37 thumping of visiting Moon in Class 5A Section 3.
The Lions (10-0, 18-1) set the tempo early and raced out to leads of 24-11 after one quarter and 42-21 at halftime.
Juliette Leroux, with 17 points, was the only other South Fayette player to score in double figures.
Maria Depner scored 19 points to lead Moon (2-7, 6-11).
In other games: The Canon-McMillan girls defeated visiting Mt. Lebanon 47-36 to sweep the Class 6A Section 2 season series. The Big Macs improved to 6-1 in section and 14-4 overall. The South Fayette boys defeated Baldwin 59-55. The Lions are now 6-4 in Class 5A Section 3 and 8-10 overall. No game details were made available to the Observer-Reporter by press time.
