High school baseball: Chartiers-Houston uses bunts to win in 9 innings
Aaron Walsh led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a bunt single and eventually scored on a wild pitch, giving Chartiers-Houston a 2-1 win over Geibel Catholic on Thursday.
Geibel scored a run in the top of the first inning and then was shut out over the next eight frames by three C-H pitchers. Lucas Wright got the final four outs and the win.
Walsh led off the third with a double, stole second and scored a groundout to make it 1-1. It stayed that way until the ninth, when Walsh dropped down the bunt single, moved up on a wild pitch and was bunted to third by Josh Hawkins.
Brady Gotfredson had a triple for C-H.
Canon-McMillan 5, Ringgold 0: Sebastian Shulsky pitched a complete-game, one-hit shutout as Canon-McMillan defeated Ringgold 5-0 at Ross Memorial Park.
Shulsky issued only one walk and struck out 13. He threw 94 pitches.
The lone hit for Ringgold was a second-inning single by Paul Dzyak.
The Big Macs scored four times in the first inning and made the most of six hits. MJ Maruschak had two hits and two stolen bases, and Dylan Musser doubled.
California 5, Carmichaels 3: California scored three runs in the top of the first inning and went on to a 5-3 victory over Carmichaels in a non-section game.
Winning pitcher Logan Hartley allowed two runs over six innings. He struck out seven. Caleb Ross got the final three outs for a save.
Ian Grodz drove in two runs for California.
Carmichaels, which closed to within 3-2 in the third inning, got a solo homer from Brayden Andrews in the first inning.
Putnam Science Academy 13, Jefferson-Morgan 0: Andres Jurado fired a four-inning perfect game as Putnam Science Academy blanked Jefferson-Morgan 13-0 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Jurado struck out six.
The winners scored in every inning, including a seven-run fourth.
The loss drops J-M’s record to 1-1.
Putnam Science Academy 13, West Greene 0: Like Jefferson-Morgan, West Greene did not have much success against Putnam Science Academy in Myrtle Beach.
The Pioneers were no hit over five innings in a 13-0 loss. Jacob Mondo struck out 10 batters over five innings to earn the win. Joel Rizor took the loss for west greene allowing six runs, three earned, over three innings.
Potomac School 18, West Greene 2: An 11-run second inning propelled Potomac School to an 18-2 win in five innings over West Greene in Myrtle Beach. West Greene was no-hit for the second time on the day, but did push across two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on an error and a passed ball. The Panthers took advantage of seven errors by West Greene.
