High school baseball: Ringgold’s Dunlevy pitches shutout

Derek Dunlevy pitched a complete game shutout with four strikeouts in a 2-0 win over McGuffey in a nonsection game Wednesday.

Dunlevy allowed only two hits and one walk.

Ringgold got both of its runs in the bottom of the first on an RBI groundout by Xander Mahoney and a sacrifice fly by Connor David. Both runs were unearned.

Wyatt Hildreth was a hard-luck loser for the Highlanders, allowing two hits over six innings with six strikeouts and three walks.

Avella 3, West Greene 1: Chas Rush hit a tiebreaking RBI double in the third inning and Avella held on to beat West Greene 3-1 in Class A Section 1.

Winning pitcher Bryce Wright struck out 11 in five innings and Brayden Fuller earned a two-inning save, Avella had only three hits but Rush’s double broke a 1-1 tie.

West Greene had 10 hits, including a double by Dylan Hughes.

Charleroi 14, Washington 8: Charleroi did all of its scoring in the first three innings and defeated visiting Washington 14-8 and earn a split of the Class 3A Section 4 series.

Jackson Keranko drove in four runs and Jake Corrin added three for the Cougars, who led 14-4 in the third inning.

Wash High’s Isaac Charnik went 4-for-4 with a triple.

Greensburg CC 4, Jefferson-Morgan 0: Tyler Samide struck out 12 over six innings and Greensburg Central Catholic blanked Jefferson-Morgan 4-0 in Class A Section 1.

GCC had a rare nine-hit shutout. John Woodward went 3-for-3 and Brayden Ellsworth doubled for the Rockets.

Burgettstown 11, Chartiers-Houston 1: Blake Neal drove in three runs, winning pitcher Matthew Bredel had three hits and Burgettstown at Chartiers-Houston, 11-1 in six innings, in Class 2A Section 1.

Colton County added three hits and two RBI for the Blue Devils.

Fort Cherry 16, Beth-Center 0: Ryan Huey went 3-for-3 with a home run, three RBI and four runs, sparking Fort Cherry to a 16-0 win over Beth-Center in a four-inning Class 2A Section 1 game.

Ben Demascal and Balek Sweder also drove in three runs for the Rangers. Sweder went 4-for-4 and Deamascal had a double. Colton Temple also hit a double.

Winning pitcher Dylan Lueck struck out three in his four shutout innings.

Carmichaels 11, Mapletown 1: Connor Lapana struck out eight over five innings as Carmichaels defeated Mapletown 11-1 in Class A Section 1.

Lapana gave up five hits, including and was backed by Chase Ankrom’s double and two RBI. Copper Richards also doubled for the Mikes (2-0, 2-1).

Belle Vernon 12, Uniontown 3: Vincenzo and Vito Francia combined for four hits and five RBI, powering Belle Vernon to a 12-3 win over Uniontown in Class 4A Section 2.

Chase Petrosky tripled and doubled for the Leopards and winning pitcher Maddox Ceccarelli pitched six strong innings.

South Fayette 9, Moon 8: Ryan Speer scored on a sacrifice fly by Luca Gioia in the top of the eighth inning to give South Fayette a 9-8 win over Moon in Class 5A Section 2.

The Lions came back from an early 6-2 deficit. Gioia and Evan Mizia each drove in four runs for South Fayette. Mizia was the winning pitcher.

Brownsville 7, Waynesburg 2: Brownsville starter Nash Petroff pitched a complete game one-hitter with 11 strikeouts to lead Brownsville past Waynesburg 7-2 in Class 3A Section 4.

The win by the Falcons split the series.

Petroff did not allow an earned run. The Falcons collected 10.

Ben Vojacek led the way for the Falcons with three hits.

Jarett Tretnik had the lone hit for Waynesburg.
