High school softball: Wash High finishes strong, beats Beth-Center
Faith Partozoti and Z Kyiah Hines combined for seven RBI as Washington defeated host Beth-Center 13-4 in a non-section game on Thursday.
Beth-Center led 4-3 before Wash High tied it in the fourth and scored four runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.
Winning pitcher Chessa Henderson struck out 10, did not walk a batter and held B-C scoreless over the final four innings.
Eastlake North 6, West Greene 3: Eastlake (Ohio) scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally for a 6-3 victory over West Greene at Myrtle Beach
Eastlake led 2-0 in the fourth, when West Greene (1-1) tied it on an RBI double by Emmaline Beazell and run-scoring groundout by Katie Brudnock. The Pioneers forged ahead in the fifth on another RBI hit by Beazell.
Two West Greene errors led to Eastlake’s big sixth inning.
Thomas Jefferson 6, Trinity 1: Thomas Jefferson scored five runs over the final three innings to beat previously undefeated Trinity 6-1 in Class 5A Section 4.
The game was tied 1-1 in the fifth inning when Jemma Danko hit a solo homer that gave TJ (3-0, 4-1) the lead. Zoie DeCostro added a two-run homer in the sixth and the Jaguars tacked on two runs in the seventh.
Trinity’s run came on a solo homer in the first inning by Nina Christy. The Hillers are 1-1 in section and 6-1 overall.
Belle Vernon 12, Southmoreland 8: Belle Vernon scored five runs in each of the first two innings and went on to a 12-8 win over Southmoreland in non-section action.
Bella Williams had three hits, including two doubles, and Kaylee Syplot drove in a pair of runs to lead the offense for the Leopards (2-3).
Leighton Schwab was the winning pitcher in relief.
Frazier 15, Monessen 0: Frazier scored 11 runs in the first inning and rolled to a 15-0 win in three innings over visiting Monessen in a nonsection game.
Washington 6, Serra Catholic 4: Washington overcame a big game by Serra Catholic’s Kelly Morrissey to beat the Eagles 6-4 in a non-section game on Wednesday.
Washington led 3-2 before scoring three times in the top of the seventh inning.
Sophie McCort hit a two-run homer and also doubled for the Prexies and winning pitcher Chessa Henderson scattered eight hits. Wash High’s Tateionna Warren added a double.
Morrissey struck out 15 batters and walked only one in a losing cause. She hit a solo home run and a double.
