High school softball: Carmichaels walks off Waynesburg, 1-0
Bailey Barnyak fired a no-hitter and Joselyn Carter hit a walk-off single as Carmichaels defeated Waynesburg 1-0 in a nonsection softball game Tuesday.
Carter’s hit, with one out in the bottom of the seventh, scored Carys McConnell, who led off the inning with a double off Waynesburg pitcher Gina Tedrow, who tossed a four-hitter.
Barnyak did not walk a batter and struck out 14 as Carmichaels improved its record to 15-4. Barnyak struck out every Waynesburg hitter at least once, except for Madi Price.
Tedrow also did not walk a batter. She struck out 12.
Canon-McMillan 9, Bethel Park 8: Addey Jordan singled and came around to score on two errors in the top of the eighth inning as Canon-McMillan outlasted Bethel Park 9-8 in a wild nonsection game.
Bethel Park (4-15) had scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh, an inning that included two walks and two errors, and tied the score at 8-8.
Jordan also had a double. Lyla Mowery hit a triple, Aurora Shirdon doubled and Addyson Smith had three singles for C-M (8-10).
Jefferson-Morgan 11, Fort Cherry 5: Jefferson-Morgan used a pair of five-run innings to beat host Fort Cherry 11-5 in nonsection action.
Fort Cherry (3-9) led 1-0 before Jefferson-Morgan (14-5) scored five times in the fourth inning. The Rockets scored five more times in the seventh.
Kelsy Vessels drove in three runs for the Rockets and winning pitcher Emilee Bazzoli struck out 11.
West Greene 9, Clay-Battelle 1: West Greene won a nonsection game against Clay-Battelle 9-1, in Blacksville, W.Va.
With the win, West Greene improved to 12-6 overall. Caitlin Whyte was the winning pitcher, striking out 10 with no walks.
West Greene’s Madelyn Roberts went 4-for-5 with an RBI, stole three bases and scored three runs for West Greene. Kendra Tharp had three hits, including a two-run inside-the-park homer in the sixth inning. She finished with three stolen bases, three RBI, and three runs. Emmaline Beazell drove in two runs. Sammi Zimmerman was 3 for 4 with a double.
South Fayette 3, Frazier 2: Cam Valentino went 2-for-2 with two triples and scored two runs, powering South Fayette to a 3-2 win over visiting Frazier in a nonsection game.
Winning pitcher Emma Earley scattered eight hits. She struck out eight and did not issue a walk as South Fayette improved its record to 11-8.
Brownsville 16, Monessen 4: Monessen was unable to overcome nine errors and lost 16-4 in five innings to Brownsville in a nonsection game between playoff-bound teams from different classifications.
