You’ve heard of rainouts in baseball, but what about track and field?

The WPIAL announced Tuesday that following discussions with the National Weather Service, it has decided to move its track and field championships, which were scheduled for Wednesday, back one day to Thursday.

The events will begin at 11 a.m. at Slippery Rock University’s Milhalik-Thompson Stadium Complex.

The WPIAL was in contact with the National Weather Service regarding the potential of inclement weather that would hamper the event on Wednesday. With a high percentage chance of rain and the possibility of a thunderstorm in the forecast, the WPIAL chose to push back the meet to Thursday, when the threat of rain is less likely.

In 2024, the WPIAL meet was delayed twice because of rain and lightning, and ultimately suspended, which caused teams to make the trek to Slippery Rock, which is outside the WPIAL’s boundary, on consecutive days.
