The Washington-Greene County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame has announced that Charleroi High School’s Jacob Corrin is the recipient of the second Dan “Moose” Brown Pony League Scholarship award.

The award, which has a $1,500 value, is presented to a high school senior from Washington or Greene counties who has made a significant impact at his school and in his community.

Corrin will be recognized with a plaque at the 2026 Washington-Greene Hall of Fame induction banquet, to be held June 7 at the Hilton Garden Inn/Southpointe.

Inducted into the Pony League Wall of Fame in 1995 and Washington-Greene Hall of Fame in Washington-Greene in 2008, Brown has spent more that 50 years serving the youth of the area in a variety of roles, including being former Pony League president, treasurer, housing and transportation director as well as being a coach, umpire, referee and serving on many youth organization board of directors.

Corrin is a three-year letterwinner in both baseball – he’s a pitcher and infielder – and golf for the Cougars and last fall he qualified for the WPIAL Class 2A golf finals and finished 37th. Corrin has helped the Charleroi baseball team advance to next week’s WPIAL Class 3A quarterfinals.

Along with athletics and his academics, Corrin is a Charleroi School Board representative, who also helps deliver Thanksgiving meals to families, does extensive community service for St. Andrew The Apostle Parrish, including serving as an altar server, Festival of Nations booth worker as well as the Food Bank, Meals on Wheels and Charleroi Youth Baseball Camp.

The son of Dana and Brian Corrin, Jacob has a 4.24 GPA and will continue his academic career at Penn State-Behrend, where he will major in Plastics Engineering.

In his 300-word essay responding to “How will the lessons I learned from participation in high school athletics help to impact my future?” Corrin wrote “My experiences in high school athletics have shaped my character because of time management, perseverance, and leadership. Leadership has had a big influence in my life and is a key characteristic to possess when taking the initiative to inspire others to accomplish a common goal. I am very motivated to use my learned skills to face challenges, remain dedicated to my education, and eager to accept strong opportunities that hard work provides.”

The first recipient of this scholarship award in 2025 was Payton Gilbert of West Greene High School.
