Salvini scores 3 TDs as Fort Cherry routs Jeannette
JEANNETTE – Eli Salvini ran for three touchdowns, Joey Barna returned a punt 95 yards for a score and Fort Cherry rolled to an impressive 42-3 win over host Jeannette in a nonconference game Thursday night.
Fort Cherry (7-1) scored the game’s first 35 points and were never threatened by the Jayhawks (6-3).
The Rangers scored on their first possession, getting a one-yard plunge by Ryan Huey for a 7-0 lead. After forcing a Jeannette punt, Barna fielded the kick over his shoulder at the five-yard line, drifted back to the one, then headed for the left sideline. He turned the corner and didn’t stop until he was in the end zone, giving Fort Cherry a 14-0 lead with 3:31 left in the first quarter.
The Rangers dominated the second quarter. Landon Trnavsky tipped a Jeannette pass and it was intercepted by Joshua Silveira. The takeaway set up a 35-yard TD run by Salvini on the first play of the second quarter. Less than three minutes later, Huey scored on a two-yard run that put the Rangers up 28-0.
Salvini scored his second touchdown when he scampered 11 yards untouched that made it 35-0 with more than seven minutes left in the first half.
The only scoring for Jeannette came on a career-long 42-yard field goal by McCalister Steele late in the second quarter.
The only scoring of the second half was a four-yard run by Salvini in the third quarter.
