Bucs’ Jaskulski finishes 2nd in state golf tournament
STATE COLLEGE – Chartiers-Houston junior JoJo Jaskulski made a move up the leaderboard Tuesday in the final round of the PIAA Golf Championships, but it wasn’t enough to catch Shady Side Academy’s Alyssa Zhang.
Jaskulski shot a 78 on the Penn State Blue Course and finished in second place in the Class 2A girls tournament. Jaskulski, who plays on the boys golf team at Chartiers-Houston, began the day in third place after shooting 73 in the opening round. She managed to move up one spot and pull away from two golfers, including Quaker Valley’s Addison Davis, who tied for third place. Jaskulski’s two-round total was 151, four shots better than the third-place golfers.
It is the third top-10 finish in the PIAA event for Jaskulski. She was eighth as a freshman in 2024 and tied for 10th last year.
Zhang, the WPIAL champion, won with a two-round total of 141.
Jaskulski was the only local golfer to garner a top-10 finish, though Canon-McMillan sophomore Jordyn Larkin came very close. Larkin shot 81 in the second round and finished with a two-day total of 156, which put her in 11th place in the Class 3A girls field. Bryn Krosse of Dallastown won with a 143 total.
Peters Township’s Annie Higgins had a strong second day as she shot a round of 76, which included three birdies, and finished in a tie for 13th place at 158. Her PT teammate, Betty Glyptis, shot 82 and tied for 19th place. Trinity’s Izzy Lesako shot 84 and ended in 24th, two strokes behind Glyptis at 164.
In the Class 3A boys tournament, Fox Chapel’s Carson Kittsley was denied his third PIAA championship as West Allegheny’s Nico Ward shot a blistering 9-under 63 to win by three shots over Baldwin’s Michael Quallich and five over Kittsley, who began the day with a one-stroke lead.
Peters Township’s Camden Reyes had a terrific final round, shooting 1-under 71. His round included four birdies. Reyes finished in a tie for 14th place at 145, 15 strokes behind Ward. Trinity’s Gavin Bricker had a final round of 81 and tied for 52nd place.
McGuffey’s Josh Rusmisel was the top local finisher in the Class 2A boys tournament. He shot 73 on Tuesday and finished at 151 and tied for 21st place. Cole Powell of Scranton Prep was the 2A champion, beating Ben Allwein of Annville Cleona on the second playoff hole. They finished the second round tied at 140.
Tristan Davis of Avella tied for 26th at 152, Charleroi’s Levi Large tied for 35th at 156, Jamin Brock of Bishop Canevin and a Washington resident, tied for 61st at 165 and Max Mezyk was tied for 68th at 171.
