Big quarter carries West Greene to victory

ROGERSVILLE – The West Greene football team went scoreless in the first five quarters of the season.

But boy did the Pioneers make up for its in their sixth.

West Greene erupted for 44 points in the second quarter Friday night and went on to beat Brownsville 50-6 in a nonconference game at Kennedy Field.

Quarterback Joel Rizor ru8shed for 208 yards on 16 carries and scored two touchdowns, Bret Scott added three scores and Gavin Roberts got the outburst started for West Greene by returning a punt 51 yards for a touchdown.

Brownsville (0-2) had taken a 6-0 lead in the first quarter on a 69-yard run.

Roberts’ punt return and Scott’s two-point conversion run put the Pioneers ahead for good at 8-6.

Scott then scored on runs of 17 and four yards before Rizor rambled 15 and 52 yards for his two touchdowns.

Scott capped the big second quarter when he returned a fumble 47 yards for a score.

Lane Stephenson had a 17-yard TD jaunt in the fourth quarter.
