Burgettstown improves to 2-0, shuts out Avella
AVELLA – Blake Neal passed for two touchdowns and added a TD plunge, Brady Rightweiser had a pair of scores and Burgettstown blanked host Avella 32-0 in a nonconference game Friday night.
Burgettstown (2-0) led 6-0 after one quarter and broke open the game with a 20-point second quarter.
Rightweiser opened the scoring with a six-yard touchdown run less than four minutes into the game.
Neal scored on a one-yard run in the second quarter to give the Blue Devils a double-digit lead, then hooked up with Dom Stevenson on an 80-yard touchdown pass that made the score 18-0.
Rightweiser’s second TD of the game, a one-yard burst, made it 26-0 at halftime.
The lone score of the second half was a 10-yard pass from Neal to Bryce Speer in the third quarter.
Avella (1-1) was held to 187 yards total offense. Chas Rush ran for 73 yards on eight carries and Gage Samol netted 48 yards on eight carries.
