MONESSEN – The Monessen High School football program became the ninth in WPIAL with 700 all-time wins as the Greyhounds won at Camichaels 38-0 in a nonconference game Friday night.

Monessen (2-0) joins Aliquippa, Jeannette, New Castle, Washington, Clairton, McKeesport, Greensburg Salem and Beaver Falls in the 700-win club.

The Greyhounds took advantage of Carmichaels miscues to build a 22-point lead in the first quarter and Monessen led 30-0 at halftime.

The game’s opening score was set up when a high snap from center went over the head of the Carmichaels punter. Monessan recovered at the Mikes’ 15-yard line and two plays later freshman Damari Miles scored on a five-yard burst. Jayveonne Jeffries caught a two-point conversion pass from Kayden Kolbeck to make it 8-0.

Kolbeck broke off a 55-yard touchdown run that increased Monessen’s lead to 14-0, and on the ensuing possession Greyhounds freshman defensive lineman Derrick Dixon intercepted a screen pass and returned it to the Carmichaels eight-yard line. The Greyhounds, however, threw a backward pass that hit the ground and Carmichaels (1-1) recovered to thwart the scoring opportunity. On the next possession, the Greyhounds’ Roodly Destyl scooped up a Carmichaels fumble and returned it 32 yards for a touchdown that gave Monessen a 22-0 lead. Kolbeck caught a two-point conversion pass from Kaier Payne.

The only score in the second quarter came late in the half when Miles went three yards up the middle for a touchdown. Payne passed to Lamont Cullin for a conversion and 30-0 advantage.
