Ground game carries West Greene to win

Mapletown\'s Vanata returns 2 kickoffs for TDs

MAPLETOWN – Joel Rizor ran for three touchdowns and passed for another as West Greene won its Class A Tri-County South Conference opener at Mapletown 37-26 on Friday night.

The game wasn’t decided until Rizor scored on a three-yard run with 1:31 remaining.

Rizor had TD runs of 13, 5 and 3 yards and also tossed a 7-yard scoring pass to Jacob Rizor.

West Greene (1-0, 2-2) rushed for 384 yards. Bret Scott added 153 yards, including a 79-yard TD burst that opened the scoring. Gavin Roberts also had a 65-yard scoring run that put West Greene up 13-0 in the first quarter.

Mapletown (0-1, 0-4) rushed for 207 yards. Carson Vanata carried 21 times for 226 yards and touchdown runs of 80 and 40 yards. He also returned two kickoffs, each 68 yards, for scores.

Rizor completed six of 14 passes for 87 yards.
