Fort Cherry spreads it around in win over Northgate
McDONALD – Matt Sieg “only” rushed for 64 yards and threw for 37, but Fort Cherry showed it is more than a one-man show in a 39-0 victory over Northgate to open the season Friday night in nonconference play at Jim Garry Stadium.
Sieg was 4-of-6 with his lone passing touchdown opening the scoring at 6:30 of the first quarter. It went 11 yards to Nate Wolfe for a 6-0 lead.
Sieg returned a punt 55 yards for a score and a 12-0 advantage at 5:49 of the second period.
Eli Salvini extend the Rangers’ lead to 18-0 with a 40-yard run before Sieg scored on a seven-yard keeper with one second on the clock for a 26-0 halftime advantage after Sieg ran in the two-point conversion.
Ryan Huey added touchdown runs from seven and one yards out in the third and fourth quarters to close the scoring.
Salvini gained 65 yards on only four carries.
