Welhorsky, defense shine in South Fayette victory
McDONALD – Drew Welhorsky ran for three touchdowns and passed for another, South Fayette’s defense had a goal-line stand in the first quarter and the Lions blanked visiting Chartiers Valley 26-0 in the season opener Friday night.
South Fayette stopped CV’s opening drive at the Lions’ 1-yard line and that was the best scoring opportunity all night for the Colts.
The only score of the first half was a six-yard TD run by Welhorsky that gave South Fayette a 7-0 lead in the second quarter.
The Lions scored two touchdowns in a three-minute stretch in the third quarter to take a 20-0 lead. Welhorsky found Tyson Wright for a nine-yard scoring pass and then the QB rambled 36 yards for a touchdown.
