MUNHALL – Donald Barksdale rushed for 342 yards on 35 carries and scored four touchdowns as Steel Valley’s ground game overpowered Washington, 28-8, Friday night in a nonconference game.

The start of the game was delayed 20 minutes because of lightning.

Barksdale scored on runs of 35 and 21 yards in the second quarter to give Steel Valley (1-1) a 14-0 halftime lead. He added a three-yard jaunt in the third quarter that made it 21-0.

Washington’s only touchdown came from its defense as defensive back Tyler Crawford grabbed an interception and returned it 48 yards to the end zone for a score. Quarterback Tristan Reed passed to Caleb Patton for a two-point conversion that cut Steel Valley’s lead to 21-8 with 5:26 remaining in the third quarter.

The Ironmen, however, put together a 92-yard touchdown drive in the fourth quarter with Barksdale scoring on a 19-yard run with 4:48 remaining. All 92 yards in the drive came on the ground.

Steel Valley gained 431 total yards to Wash High’s 183.
