Burgettstown wins in 10 seconds
ELLSWORTH – Burgettstown did all of its scoring in a 10-second span of the third quarter and defeated Bentworth 11-6 in a nonconference game Friday night.
After the first half ended in a scoreless tie, Burgettstown drove inside the Bentworth five-yard line in the third quarter before losing a fumble. Bentworth, however, fumbled right back to the Blue Devils. This time, Burgettstown was kept out of the end zone again but settled for a 22-yard field goal by Colton County and a 3-0 lead.
On the first play from scrimmage following the field goal, Burgettstown’s Wyatt Stevenson had a strip sack of the Bentworth quarterback and returned the fumble five yards for a touchdown. The snap from center was botched but County picked up the football and ran it in for a two-point conversion that made the score 11-0.
Bentworth closed to within 11-61:07 remaining when Ben Hays caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from Tristan Hackinson.
Bentworth’s Brady Brightweisder rushed for 75 yards on 14 carries. Hays caught five passes for 85 yards.
